Polish You Can’t Have

Seriously. Sorry to tempt you guys w/ a beautiful color you can’t have, but it’s too damn pretty NOT to share.

I picked this lovely gem up during Ji Baek’s last (and first!) Fan Collection for Rescue Beauty Lounge. The collection was based on specific inspiration and input from fans.

This is one of my favorite Indie brands; Ji has great customer service and has been really responsive in the past to customer concerns. Anyways, the other reason I love this brand is the unique colors and quality of the polish. The polish is beautiful and smooth on application after two coats (sometimes one!) and super shiny without a top coat.

Enough rambling-here’s the pretty polish!

Bling-tastic Tuesday…or Wednesday Vol. 6

Right…so it’s now officially been well over a year since I’ve written, and I won’t bore you with the details of the calamity of my professional situation (I’ve implemented some coping mechanisms), but I figured the best way to return was to do what all normal, dysfunctional families do: carry on and pretend like nothing ever happened! 🙂

In celebration of that delusional grasp at normalcy, I give you my most recent manicure (don’t think it’s the first one I’ve done since spring 2011 despite that several month long stretch where I ignored my cuticles and I chewed my nails instead of filing them…but that’s perhaps a post for another day).

Below you will find a combination I thought would be relatively pretty in my usual Sunday evening drunken haze (oh, right so by coping mechanism, I really meant I’ve increased my alcohol consumption). For your viewing enjoyment, I did a mani of Nfu Oh 40 over 3 coats of Rescue Beauty Lounge Bikini Bottom.

Pretty, no?

GO BLUE!

Yeah, I’m jumping on the bandwagon. The long standing rivalry between the University of Michigan (UofM) and Michigan State University (MSU) reaches another showdown this Saturday in the Big House in Ann Arbor, MI.

Being a College of Engineering graduate from U of M, I bleed maize and blue. I thought it only appropriate to do my newest manicure in those colors or at least a somewhat stylized variant for the purposes of nail art.

I’m not super great at nail art, so I purchased some tools from teh internets after much research concerning the fine art of Konad stamping. Basically, there’s a laser etched, stainless steel plate etched with some design. You apply nail polish on to the image, use a plastic card to wipe the excess polish of the plate, take a rubber stamping transfer tool and transfer the image on to the stamp. Once the image has been transferred on to the stamping tool, you align the design w/ your nail and apply the image on the nail, and voila! Nail art!

For the Wolverine inspired fauxnad (not real Konad since that’s a brand name for the tools and plates and I used Bundle Monster image plate #18), I used Orly Royal Navy as the base and a yellow Konad Special Nail Polish that I received from a special Coraline stamping kit. This is maybe the 3rd or 4th time I’ve ever done stamped nail art, so I still have to perfect my technique, hence the uneven application of the yellow flame design. It’s definitely by far easier than if I did it by hand, but certainly takes some getting used to.

Behold! My maize and blue creation!

So this is the nail art I’ll be sporting as I cheer on my alma mater.

CHEESECAKE!!!!!

Do I have your attention yet? Ok, well, if not, here’s a giant photo of the 2nd most delicious cheesecake I’ve ever had:

Not forgiven for being MIA? 😦

Sorry for completely going missing the past week. The work induced crazy-busyness has completely ramped up within the last week or so, and when I haven’t been slammed w/ work responsibilities, I’ve been completely booked w/ previous personal plans. Gahhhhh! How do you fellow working bloggers even keep up? I clearly need to plan better…

Anywhosits, I didn’t want to miss a bling-tastic Tuesday…or Wednesday, so here is a new post for your viewing enjoyment! This week I am featuring a polish I found whilst on a search for a brick and mortar retailer that sold butter LONDON nail polish. This was mainly b/c I was experiencing a momentary, lust-induced mania to acquire a few of their fall 2010 colors (swatches: Vampy Varnish). So yeah, I totally didn’t find any of the new colors, but I did find this oldie, but goodie! (Ok, “oldie” may be relative since it was from last year, but it’s not from a new, shiny collection for this fall.)

This little gem is called Henley Regatta and I’d describe it as blue/green glitter in a sheer, teal jelly base. This application took about three coats (maybe four, but I really can’t remember now) and has a coat of Seche Vite on top. I think it would look gorgeous layered over something else, maybe over butter LONDON’s Thames?

The thing that I really liked about this specific glitter is just how alive it looked on the bottle and on the nail. In person, this was just so glittery and shiny and eye-catching!

Well, sadly, that’s all I have for now, but I’ve actually got half of the Fall 2010 China Glaze Vintage Vixen collection (that’s still six polishes) swatched for your future enjoyment once i have time to sit down and edit the photos. Oh, and the Orly Cosmic FX collection too, but I think I’m going to have to redo those b/c I took them indoors w/ flash and I just wasn’t able to capture the duochrome-y goodness. So those I’ll redo outdoors.

And please, please stay w/ me for the nail tutorial. I think I may have made this in to more of a project than I originally intended. I had this grand plan to basically provide a work instruction complete w/ photos (I did warn you that it could get ugly!), and have already started executing this plan. I’ve got most of the text written, but I still need to take and edit corresponding photos.

Ok, lovelies, I’m off to bed (but I’m scheduling this to post at 9AM so I’ll be awake again when you read this, LOL) so I can be in top form for a cross-functional meeting I’m holding tomorrow. Wish me luck and have a Bling-tastic Wednesday! 🙂

Bling-tastic Tuesday…or Wednesday Vol. 2

Well, I’m kind of disappointed. No feedback when I post eyeballs??? Maybe I’ll wait another 24 hours before I rant, LOL.

Disregarding that, I have more glitter for you! Last week’s glitter french manicure seemed to go over pretty well, so I actually did another one. This time the glitter on the tips was a little more obvious since I used OPI Absolutely Alice.

This was a Zoya Shimmer base under OPI Absolutely Alice tips.

But how boring would that be if that were the only thing I shared w/ you??? I felt guilty about not throwing in something new, so I’ve also got photos of one of my newest obsessions-flakies! (Of which I completely blame Nicole from Magic Maid for. See, she even admits to being my enabler here! LOL)

What are flakies you ask? They’re irregular shaped flakes of some opalescent material suspended in a non-colored base. The result when you layer it over a colored nail polish is like lighting it on fire! The light catches so many different colors as you move your hand around, it just completely transforms the base color. Lookie!

Not impressed? Then clearly I need to do a better photography job the next time. B/c, oh, there WILL be a next time! Bwahahaha!…ok, now that the sleep deprivation has subsided, I claim that there will be more b/c I placed an order at FabulouStreet.com for more flakies w/ more, differenter (again, “That’s not even a WORD!”) opalescence. Confused? You won’t be after this week’s episode of…Soap! <—Whew! Sorry about that, the sleep deprivation is really setting in and I'll need to go to bed earlier today, but I just had to let that one out. Heehee!

Ok, well, that's all for now. I'll be working on that much promised polish application tutorial which I hope to publish at the end of this week/weekend.

Cheers for now, lovelies! 🙂
